Joelle Fleurantin: Doll

Semi-serializing this novella will keep me motivated as the story’s structure has been difficult to nail down. After some time away on another project (and encouragement) I’ll be sharing excerpts weekly.

DOLL is about the relationship between scientist, Dr. Marguerite Thompson, and her creation,Vivian who was once Violet who was once Tracy. Dr. Thompson promises Tracy, a young woman imprisoned for a crime in her teens, a fresh start with money and a clean record in exchange for participating in a corporate experiment on memory. Eager to erase her painful past,Tracy accepts. Through the procedures, she becomes Violet and endures long treatments which have side effects the corporation exploits. Dr. Thompson is tasked to send Violet out on a dangerous mission, and soon after her control over Violet unravels. Violet escapes and becomes Vivian, a survivor longing for a lost love while Dr. Thompson’s life becomes upended in the search for her.
