This is a test made from parts I managed to CNC before the COVID-19 shutdown. This test is made from electrical conduit, Pyrex glass, and coiled nichrome wire. There are milled pieces of machinable ceramic holding everything in place. The brackets are scrap pieces of masonite I found in the shop.
The goal for this week was to test the fit on all my parts and see what the coil does. The gauge of the coil and the distribution of the windings effect how fast it heats up and how much it glows. It gets very hot, but at least most of the live AC wires are covered as opposed to the sculpture from Neon. I used a generic light switch / light box, because I have it, but I think there might be something to the aesthetics of common switches. I’m still working through it.
